It’s starting to get warm here in the Mid-Atlantic, and warm weather begets thoughts of summer, and thoughts of summer to those more pointed of summer vacations. We don’t go every year, but Rehoboth Beach is a frequent destination for us and one of our perennial favorites is the Dogfish Head brewpub on Rehoboth Ave.
For those unfamiliar with this craft beer brand, Dogfish Head makes some of the most revered beers in the industry, most notably their IPAs. Their 60-Minute IPA is probably their most well-known beer, followed by their more potent 90-Minute IPA (one of my personal favorites), but they are constantly adding new beers to their selection.
The brewery itself is headquartered in nearby Milford, DE and in fact the company has built a small cottage tourist industry around it as you can stay at the nearby Dogfish Inn if you’d like to be able to sample all the beers you’d like and not drive afterward.
The Rehoboth brewpub was their very first (they’ve since added a sister restaurant down the street and a few alehouses in the DC metro area), and a couple of years ago it underwent extensive renovations in order to allow for more dining space.(though to be honest, I didn’t notice that much more space, but that’s because I feel like the bar area is a little smaller and that’s where I like to sit). The food here is solid, from-scratch pub fare that includes pretzel nuggets and fish tacos, though my personal favorite pairing is a Flesh & Blood IPA and their margherita pizza.
If you plan on going there, consider going during the week versus a Friday or the weekend as while it’s seldom not busy there, you’ll have a better shot at getting a table or a spot at the bar. If you do venture there on a weekend, just be prepared to wait and if your party allows for it, try to snag a spot at the circular bar. You won’t be disappointed.
